Area of origin

Langhe. The Langhe is located in the southern part of Piedmont. The name means “tongues of the land,” and refers to the elongated hills, often with very steep sides that run parallel to each other in order to form numerous valleys. Nebbiolo is the oldest indigenous red grape variety of Piedmont. Its name derives from the Italian word, “nebbia,” which means fog, and according to some gets its name due to the berries seeming “clouded,” covered with abundant bloom (the waxy, substance on the skin of the grapes). Others believe it is because the late harvest is around the same time of the arrival of the first autumn fogs.
